Maura O'Conner and her son Aiden needed a new life. After her husband Grady's death as a soldier in the Civil War, they had to scrape to get by in their small tenement in New York. Working in a cotton factory had damaged Maura's lungs, and her doctor didn't give her much hope for a long life. Maura decided to move out west to Hope Springs and live among her husband's family so Aiden would have someone to care for him when she died. Having read the previous four books, I came to care very much for the O'Conner family who, though poor, helped one another through their struggles. A character named Ryan Callahan enters the picture as a single farmer trying to take care of his widowed mother by working a property owned by the O'Conners with the hope of buying it after five years. Tavish O'Conner let Maura and Aiden live in the small house attached to the property, thus dashing Ryan's hopes. Interesting story.
Another great book from Sarah M. Eden. On its own, I enjoyed it. The characters are great, the story great, the tension great. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that there are a few issues with the story. Nothing major, just a few inconsistencies and unanswered questions. And the hero and heroine feel a little recycled. Maura is headstrong and independent to a fault and has to learn to accept help from others (like Katie) and struggles with a debilitating illness that threatens her future (like Cecily). Ryan is an optimistic fellow who enjoys teasing people and works really hard to make a better life for himself (like Tavish). There are enough differences that it wasn't a carbon copy by any means, but I wasn't quite as invested in their romance because I kept thinking of Katie, Tavish, and Cecily. In the end, I think my favorite part was all the subplots and side characters.Definitely fun and worth reading, but not my favorite of the series.
This story was a little hard sometimes to read. Maura O’Connor had experienced tremendous loss and trials in her life, yet was determined to help her son find security and happiness. She sold everything she had in order to leave New York and head West to the family of her dead husband. She was struggling to even breath but somehow managed the journey. Her arrival with her son in Hope Springs was welcomed by most of Hope Spring, but Ryan Callaghan was not so enthusiastic to have her in the home that he’d hoped to claim for himself. They find they both need the home and future it offers, but cannot see how to claim it without hurting the other. In a tale of struggle and trial, Maura and Ryan find a perfect solution.
This is my favorite series by Sarah Eden although I love the Duke of Kilder too! This book was really good. It felt me wanting more of course. I’m really hoping Sarah will continue to write and tell the stories of Finbar, Eliza, and more!
Sarah Eden does it again! Another beautiful, real, heart warming story in the Longing For Home Series. I love how Sarah crafts a story and pulls the reader right into it. Full of love, real life struggles, health challenges, forgiveness, sorrow, family struggles and triumphs. I would recommend this book and every other book written by her to everyone.
Maura O'Connor leaves the factories of New York to seek out her deceased husband's family in Hope Springs, Wyoming.Another solid hit by Sarah Eden. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, and they just keep getting better. This book kept me riveted. I love the depth of Eden's characters and the goodness that they show in spite of--or because of--their flaws.
I absolutely loved this book. The Author does an excellent job of describing the characters and the description of their homes, life, etc. The book was a great read and I recommend it to everyone.
I loved visiting Hope Springs again. I love the tight knit community and the never failing support of family that the O'Connors have. I enjoyed getting to know more about the O'Connors and the Archers. I can't wait to read more of the Hope Springs community in the future.
